CSTA Welcomes Michele Holcomb as Deputy Executive Director

The board of directors of the California Science Teachers Association made a strategic decision earlier in 2019 to increase the full-time staff to grow and better serve the organization's membership. Following the onboarding of a new executive director, a search commenced hiring the most qualified candidate to round out the staff executive team by hiring a deputy executive director. After a broad encompassing search CSTA is pleased to announce the hiring of Michele Holcomb.

Having a long history and broad set of experiences with associations and child development, Michelle brings a wealth of insight, creativity, and experience to CSTA. Most recently, Michelle served as the director of membership and marketing for the California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAAEYC), an organization she has worked with for over 10 years. Additionally, roles and responsibilities have included communication programming, conference and event coordination, and management of staff.

“Michele is the perfect person to help CSTA foster growth in members, support the board and members through enhancing communication programs and provide day to day operational oversight, while we also tackle advocacy issues on behalf of the California science education community,” stated Camron King, CSTA Executive Director. “She has the perfect temperament, vision, capacity and drive to be a part of the future of the organization.”

The role of deputy executive director is a new one for the Association. It was born out of the recognition that as the Association continues to grow in membership, progress in its advocacy efforts and capitalize upon opportunities to further develop programming relevant to the science education community staff executive management needed to be divided into a role that was advocacy focused and one that has a membership focus. Holcomb will work closely with King to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in operations of CSTA, programmatic development, and advocacy on behalf of all of California's science educators.

Please feel free to reach Michele at 916.979.7004 or via e-mail at michele@cascience.org.
