Springing Forward: Advocating for Science and Finishing Strong
By Debbie Gordon, President
Spring is finally here and the final stretch of the school year is in full swing. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work you all do, especially during such challenging times. Your commitment to fostering curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving in students is shaping the future of our state and beyond. Thank you!

President
Our Advocacy Committee, Board members, and CASE staff have been working overtime to ensure full implementation of Science on the Dashboard. Our Make Science Matter Petition, signed by 821 individuals and organizations, was sent to the State Board of Education (SBE) with a clear message that inclusion of science on the Dashboard and in our accountability system will send a strong signal to school administrators, the community, and parents that Science is a vital subject worthy of investing resources and time.
No one wants more testing! But, we recognize that science instruction in TK-12 has often been sidelined in favor of other subjects. Accountability can create a more consistent framework for ensuring that science education is prioritized and effectively taught. Setting clear standards can help increase the likelihood that science gets the time and attention it deserves in classrooms across the state.
As you power through the last few months of the school year, please remember the powerful impact we have on our students’ lives. Here’s to finishing this year strong and continuing to advocate for science in every classroom across California.
CASE is here for you, let us know what is important to you and how you are doing. Leave a comment or email us at info@cascience.org.
