This spring, the CASE Environmental Literacy Committee launched its first-ever Earth Day Bookmark Contest, and the results were truly inspiring! With nearly 1,000 submissions from students across California in grades TK–12, this contest gave young artists a chance to showcase their creativity and care for the planet through original artwork.

Centered on the 2025 Earth Day theme, Our Power, Our Planet, students created bookmarks that reflected powerful environmental messages, through words, colors, and imagery. From messages of hope and kindness to visions of unity and climate action, each submission reflected the unique voice and vision of California’s youth.

Congratulations to our four student winners, whose artwork stood out for its message, creativity, and impact:

• Parker S., 2nd grade, The Wesley School
• Grace L.,  4th grade, Joseph Weller Elementary
• Angel Z., 7th grade, Harbor Day School
• Evelyn S., 11th Grade, Torrance High School

Each winner received a $50 Amazon gift card, a personal set of printed bookmarks featuring their design, a class set to share with peers, and a set of environmental literacy books for their classroom or school library.

We’re also proud to recognize our talented runner-ups:

• Aarav Mishra, 2nd grade, Mission San Jose Elementary School and Mason Shelton, 2nd grade, St. Patricks School 
• Jason H., 5th grade, Castle View Elementay School and Elijah C., 5th grade, DeLaveaga Elementary School
• Elijah T., 6th grade, Robert Frost Middle School and Aarika S., 6th grade, Margaret Landell Elementary School 
• Vianca V., 11th grade, Rancho Verde High School and Brizeira Chavez, 11th grade, Allian Patti & Peter Neuwirth Leadership Academy 

Each runner up received a $25 Amazon Gift Card and a feature on CASE's Instagram page. 

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every student, parent, teacher, and school community that participated. This celebration highlights the creativity and leadership of California’s students and reminds us of the power of youth voices in protecting our planet. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!
